White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is scheduled to address the press briefing room on Tuesday for the first time since Biden’s shaky debate performance.
After Thursday’s debate in Atlanta, Jean-Pierre held a press conference aboard Air Force One on his way to Queens, New York on Friday, but Tuesday will be his first time back in the White House briefing room to answer questions in front of the cameras. Biden returned to the White House on Monday night after gathering with his family at Camp David in Maryland over the weekend.
During the press conference with Jean-Pierre, campaign communications director Michael Tyler referred to comments made by Biden at a post-debate rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Friday.
In stark contrast to the debates, the president, reading from a teleprompter and addressing a live audience, told cheering supporters, “I don’t walk as lightly as I used to. I don’t talk as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to. But I know what I know: I know how to tell the truth.”
Biden family criticizes staff for underwhelming debate performance at Camp David again: Report

“I think the president himself has clearly said he’s not as good at debating as he used to be. He can’t walk as smoothly as he used to, he can’t talk as smoothly as he used to. But he knows how to fight like hell, and I think he showed that today in North Carolina,” Tyler said. “And so the American people are going to see every day for the rest of this campaign understanding that President Joe Biden will never stop fighting for the American people, and he’s going to contrast that with Donald Trump, who is clearly fighting for himself every day.”
“I think the president was honest about his performance, but in terms of what last night’s debate actually offered to the American people, it was a concrete embodiment of a threat, it began to concrete the threat that Donald Trump poses,” he added.
After a series of campaign events in New York and New Jersey on Saturday, First Lady Jill Biden and the president’s children and grandchildren gathered at Camp David and reportedly encouraged the president to continue his campaign despite uproar within the Democratic Party over whether his current chief of staff is fit to be the nominee for a second term.
Biden’s family reportedly blasted campaign staff on Sunday, claiming they had not adequately prepared the president for his CNN debate with former President Trump.

Biden staff “weren’t that scared of him,” administration official says, White House fires back
According to a new report from Politico on Tuesday, a senior administration official said: President Biden’s Administration officials are “extremely afraid” of displeasing the president with their daily briefings.
“It’s like, ‘Don’t put that in, it will upset him’ or ‘Put that in, he loves it,'” one senior administration official told Politico privately. “It’s a Rorschach test, it’s not a briefing, because the guy who’s being briefed is not a fun person to be around. It’s very difficult, and people are scared.” [s—less] his.”
