Lebanon Foreign Minister Sends Message to Israel: We Want Peace

Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib sent a message to Israel through Azerbaijan that the Lebanese people do not want war and want to live in peace.

The unusual message came as the Iranian-backed terrorist organization Hezbollah, which illegally occupies southern Lebanon, escalates its attacks on Israel, which began on October 8 after the Iranian-backed Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas launched major terrorist attacks inside Israel.

Israel has evacuated its northern border areas, forcing tens of thousands of civilians to flee, after Hezbollah fired projectiles across the border, including anti-tank missiles that fly too low to be detected by current defense systems.

Israel responded by attacking the source of the fires, followed by attacks on Hezbollah commanders and operatives, and also began a military buildup in preparation for a larger war to eliminate the Hezbollah threat.

Israel says it prefers a diplomatic solution to force Hezbollah to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 1707 and move north of Lebanon’s Litani River, but is prepared to use force.

Amid rising tensions, with several countries warning their citizens not to travel to Lebanon and to leave the country if possible, Habib sent the message to Israel via Azerbaijan, a Muslim country that has ties with Israel.

of Jerusalem Post Reports:

of Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib He sent a special third-party message to Foreign Minister Israel Katz, explaining that he did not want war to break out between the two countries.

“We want peace, we don’t want war,” Habib said in a statement passed through Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jayhun Bayramov, who met with Katz on Tuesday. The conversation was relayed to The Jerusalem Post by a spokesman for Katz.

Katz sent a message to Habib saying, “We need to get people back to their homes. If there’s no diplomatic solution, there will be war.”

Lebanon is supposed to patrol its southern border to monitor Hezbollah’s compliance with UN rules, but in reality Hezbollah controls the Lebanese government and Lebanon functions as a vassal state of Iran.

A war between Israel and Hezbollah is expected to be even more destructive than the ongoing war with Hamas in Gaza because of the larger and more advanced weaponry that Hezbollah has accumulated in southern Lebanon.
