Joe Biden is considering giving up on re-election, according to a new report.

The New York Times reported that “the president is seriously considering whether he can recover from his dismal performance at Thursday’s debate in Atlanta.”

The Telegraph reported:

Joe Biden is said to be seriously considering dropping out of the race and believes he has just four days left to save his presidential campaign.

Supporters of the US president told The New York Times that the 81-year-old believes his campaign could be in a “different situation” by Sunday unless he gets positive results in a television interview and two campaign rallies in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

“The president is seriously considering whether he can recover from his dismal performance at Thursday’s debate in Atlanta,” The New York Times reported, citing anonymous sources.

The remarks marked Biden’s first acknowledgement that he was concerned about his position, after denying in public statements over the past six days that he had any intention of dropping out of the race.

Biden campaign aides said the report was false.

CNN reported:

Quentin Fulks, a senior member of the Biden-Harris campaign, said in an interview with CNN on Wednesday that the New York Times report was “false.”

Asked whether Biden’s upcoming interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos and his recent slump in the polls will affect his decision to continue in the race, Fulks said, “I don’t think that’s going to be a determining factor.” He said the campaign is hoping the event goes well, but Fulks said, “I don’t think it’s going to be a determining factor.” [these events have] It will affect whether someone continues to run for president of the United States.”

“Clearly the 90-minute debate performance was poor,” said Fulks, the campaign’s deputy chief campaign manager, “but it does not define President Biden’s record or vision.”

“The president has been meeting with a lot of Democratic leaders,” Fulks said. “I think what we’re feeling from people is a sense of urgency and a sense of fear about Donald Trump,” Fulks said. Biden, he said, is reassuring these leaders that he’s still in the race.
