Delta flight from Detroit to the Netherlands diverted over spoiled food

A Delta Airlines flight from Detroit to Amsterdam was diverted early Wednesday morning after a passenger ate spoiled food.

“Delta Flight 136 from Detroit to Amsterdam was diverted to New York’s JFK airport early Wednesday morning after a report of spoiled food in the main cabin,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement to FOX Business.

The crew consulted with medical experts and were advised to divert the flight to New York.

The plane, carrying 277 passengers, landed safely at John F. Kennedy International Airport at 4 a.m. The plane was scheduled to depart Detroit Metropolitan Airport at 10:51 p.m. on Tuesday for a seven-hour trip overseas, according to FlightAware.

Delta said medical staff arrived on board the plane after the flight landed and treated affected passengers and crew.

The airline’s food safety team contacted the supplier, quarantined the product and launched an investigation into what happened.

“This is not the service Delta prides itself on and we sincerely apologize to our customers for any inconvenience and travel delays caused,” Delta said in a statement.

The number of passengers is still unknown. Eating rotten food Delta did not say what symptoms the passenger was experiencing.
