94% of late-night guests in last 9 months were liberal

A new study conducted over a nine-month period found that an overwhelming 94% of guests who discussed political issues on late-night shows identified as liberal.

Between October 2023 and June 2024, guests from the following late-night talk shows were analyzed: “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” (ABC), “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (NBC), “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” (NBC), “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” (CBS), and “The Daily Show” (Comedy Central).

Guests were counted as either liberal or conservative regardless of subject, but were categorized based on what they said in the segment. Guest categories included celebrities, journalists, and party officials. Former party officials who had moved on were counted under celebrities and journalists. Politicians were categorized as current and former elected officials, staff, and spouses of politicians.

The survey found that the overwhelming majority of guests were considered liberal, with only eight of the 137 guests in total identifying as conservative.

Host Stephen Colbert has hosted the highest percentage of Democratic and Republican officials, with a ratio of 14 to 1. Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon have never hosted a Republican.

But “The Daily Show” hosts had the most with four. The Comedy Central show featured Republicans Nancy Mace and Nikki Haley, while Colbert’s Republican pick was Liz Cheney. Media Research Center report.

“Late-night TV hosts have abandoned comedy in favor of a staunchly synchronized delivery of administration-approved talking points.”

For Democrats, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders and former staffer to former President Barack Obama were just some of the left-leaning figures welcomed to the show.

When it comes to journalists and public figures, 104 liberals were interviewed compared to just three conservatives.

Colbert continued to have the most partisan interviews, with 34 from the left and zero from the right, while “The Daily Show” had 29 liberals and three conservatives, and Meyers had 21 liberals and zero conservatives.

Those included in the conservative category were not strictly Republican hardliners, but included three notable journalists and celebrities: Dr. Phil, author Jonathan Haidt, and comedian Bill Burr, who regularly makes an effort to poke fun at both sides of the political aisle.

The most frequent partisan guest was fellow late-night host John Oliver, who appeared on the show seven times. MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, CBS’ Gayle King, and CNN’s Jake Tapper were also frequent guests. Meyers herself appeared on the show three times.

Other attendees included Arnold Schwarzenegger, CNN’s Anderson Cooper and ABC host George Stephanopoulos. Guest List Available online.

“Late-night TV hosts have abandoned comedy for a faithful litany of administration-approved talking points,” political strategist Kingsley Wilson told Blaze News. “The only funny thing about these hosts is their inability to connect with ordinary Americans outside of their elite circles.”

“It’s no wonder late-night TV is losing viewers and money faster than Joe Biden can lose his mind,” Wilson joked.
