Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on former President Trump to announce a plan to end the ongoing war with Russia.
“If Trump knows how to end this war, he should tell us today,” Zelensky said on Bloomberg TV. interview “If there is a risk to Ukraine’s independence, if we lose our statehood, we want to be prepared for this and we want to know.”
According to Bloomberg, Zelensky said in the interview that he “may be ready” to meet with President Trump and hear his proposal.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that as president he could end Russia’s war with Ukraine in just 24 hours, and Zelensky has responded by offering multiple invitations to Trump to visit the war-torn country.
Former President Trump has praised Russian President Vladimir Putin in the past, calling him a “genius” shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. During last week’s presidential debate, Trump criticized the amount of money the US has sent to Ukraine, adding that the country is “not winning the war.”
“What I’m saying is the money that we’re spending on this war should never have been spent and it should never have happened. As the next president, I’m going to get this war resolved between President Putin and President Zelensky before I take office on January 20th. I’m going to get this war resolved,” Trump said.
Zelensky also rejected the notion that the war was at a “stalemate” and suggested Ukraine needed more resources to support the war, Bloomberg reported.
“This is not an impasse, this is a problem situation,” he said, according to Bloomberg. “An impasse means there is no way out. But if you have the will and the means, you can solve the problem. We have the will and the means, but we’re not there yet.”
