For the past four years, Democrats have touted President Joe Biden as the best president and a counterweight to President Trump.
But after Biden’s horrific debate performance, several of them have publicly retracted their more recent support for a candidate facing declining health.
The New York Times editorial board is one of them, having just published an article headlined “To Serve the Nation, President Biden Should Drop Out of the Race.”
“This is a pretty big step,” commented Stuart Bergere of Stu Does America. “Obviously, as you’d expect, the op-ed is awful. It basically says, ‘Donald Trump is really bad, Joe Biden was the best president ever, but he looked a little old in the debates, so maybe he should step down.'”
Other Democrats aren’t so honest.
Despite Biden’s apparent mental decline, Keith Olbermann posted on X, “Today’s YouGov/CBS Poll: Should Biden Stay in the Campaign? Yes, 55% to 45%.”
“Should Trump continue the campaign? No, 54% to 46%,” Olbermann continued, adding, “That says it all. Any questions?”
But the poll doesn’t actually tell us what Olbermann means.
“The fact that Biden is barely beating Trump among Democrats, relative to registered voters, is a disaster,” Stu says.
In the same poll, 46% of Democrats said Biden should not run for president, and 45% said Biden should step aside and make someone else the nominee.
“Basically half of your voters are telling you not to run. That’s not normal, guys,” Stu added.
