The Democratic National Committee (DNC) released a Fourth of July message calling on Americans to “re-elect President Joe Biden” to protect our “fragile democracy” from the threat of “wannabe dictator” Donald Trump.
The full statement is as follows:
On July 4, 1776, our forefathers declared the independence of the United States of America and laid the foundation for our nation’s founding principles of equality, liberty, and emancipation — principles we strive to uphold today.
Since then, generations of Americans, from men and women in uniform to community organizers and advocates, have dedicated their lives to defending our freedoms and working for a more perfect union. Today we honor the service and sacrifices these brave men and women made to protect our fragile democracy, defend our values, and lead progress.
On this day, we honor the incredible pioneers who blazed the trail and recommit ourselves to our nation’s founding principles. The fight to protect equality, justice, and freedom for all is far from over. This November, our nation will face a fundamental choice. Will we vote for a president who believes in democracy and the ideals of justice, freedom, and equality? Or will we succumb from day one to a would-be dictator who will put himself above our Constitution, our ideals, and the democracy we cherish? President Biden and Democrats across the nation know the soul of our nation is at stake, and we will always stand on the side of democracy.
To ensure that our country as we know it celebrates its 249th anniversary, we must do everything in our power to keep Donald Trump out of the White House and to re-elect President Joe Biden.
The DNC statement comes as a growing number of Democrats are calling on the president to step aside and endorse another candidate following his poor performance in the first presidential debate of the general election last week.
