Vice President Kamala Harris, who has long defended President Joe Biden’s failing health, is likely to face harsh criticism after a dismal debate performance that makes Biden’s chances of remaining the Democratic presidential nominee far from certain.
Alex Thompson, national politics reporter for Axios, told CNN that Harris’ biggest hurdle will be having to defend past comments she has made about Biden’s fitness to serve as president, even though years of public comments have shown Biden’s mental capacity to be declining.
“she, [Biden’s] “Ms. Harris is dealing with a health issue. You’ll remember after the Herr report, Ms. Harris came out and said she was in favor and had command of everything in the room. Ms. Harris is going to have to sit down and answer the tough questions. … Kamala Harris has not actually come out and answered the questions,” Thompson said.
“Of course, if you want, but you don’t have to.”
If Biden were to withdraw, it would be difficult for other national Democrats to enter the race at this stage of the election, but Thompson noted that there are Democrats ready to attack Harris if her role in concealing Biden’s health becomes a major liability.
Harris Said In February, she argued that the Har report’s claims that Biden has a poor memory on important matters and would be viewed by jurors as a sympathetic old man were “unfounded, inaccurate and inappropriate.” She added that the report’s comments were “politically motivated.”
Harris asked last November She said if the president was willing to speak openly to the American people if he had a problem, he would say something.
“Of course, if necessary, we would, but there’s no need to,” she said at the time.
Biden said he was the best person to defeat former President Donald Trump and vowed to continue his campaign. Whether he will actually continue is another matter. Days after Biden’s health apparently deteriorated, Democratic and White House sources continue to leak various examples of Biden’s poor performance to reporters.
Biden met with Democratic governors in person and by video call this week to make clear he has no plans to withdraw from the election. Reportedly That upset some attendees, who wanted to at least discuss the possibility before collectively agreeing on a course of action. One bizarre moment during the meeting included Biden telling the group he was OK and then saying, “It’s in my head.” Biden’s campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, insisted that the remark was a joke.
