Comedian Marlon Wayans was shocked to learn that his Los Angeles-area home had been targeted by intruders, but in typical fashion, he found a dark humor in the situation.
In an Instagram post to his 6.9 million followers on July 4, Wayans said his home had been broken into and robbed, and joked that the burglars were just wasting their time looking for stolen items because the only thing of value in his house is the house itself.
“Dear burglars and all,” he wrote in the caption of an Instagram message, “I’m not the kind of person who burglarizes. Conserve your energy. There is nothing of value in my house except the house.”
Wayans went on to discuss his modest lifestyle, writing, “Sorry but I live a simple life with two cats. One of them is a 1994 Range Rover that if stolen would need a jump start as the battery is dead.”
“Burglars wouldn’t waste your strength or your life breaking into a house. The load is too heavy!,” the actor joked. “Do you want to carry all that crap? Hurt your back, and for what?! Again, I don’t own anything of value. No big bucks, no jewels. Pick a better target. Thank you, I love you… but still.”
In the video accompanying the post, he reiterated that he doesn’t own any flashy stuff, noting that he’s not wearing any jewelry and that he’s not “flashy” at all.
He also thanked friends who checked in on him after the attack.
Wayans is not the only member of Hollywood’s elite to have had his home burglarized.
Last month, A-list actress Goldie Hawn appeared on Kelly Rippa’s podcast and slammed the home she shares with actor Kurt Russell for being burglarized not once, but twice, and called Los Angeles a “terrible” city.
Other celebrities who have been victims of home invasions include Farah Al-Jufrie, the daughter of actress Kyle Richards. John Wick Countless celebrities have taken part, including star Keanu Reeves, Instagram model Abigail Ratchford, rapper Megan Thee Stallion and actor and businessman Arsenio Hall.
In April, the home of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was burglarized.
The general discomfort and lack of safety of LA life has led other celebrities to flee the area and relocate. Big names like Jim Carrey, Mark Wahlberg, Sylvester Stallone, Rob Schneider, Joe Rogan and Matt Damon have fled the former Golden State in recent years, many of them settling in states like Nevada and Texas, provided they live anywhere outside of LA’s borders.
Wayans recently The Daily Show He interviewed Georgia attorney Nathan Wade about his relationship with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, making one sex joke after another about the pair’s efforts to prosecute former President Donald Trump.
In November 2023, the actor spoke about his son becoming transgender and said he had reached “complete unconditional love and acceptance” of the transition.
