Van Dao’s wooden vehicle building journey began just three years ago, by making simple shoebox-sized replicas of luxury cars and supercars.

As his skills improved, his projects increased in size and complexity, and when he built a small wooden replica Ferrari for his son, his talents soon attracted worldwide attention.

He has also built a highly detailed Bugatti Centodieci at 1/3 to 1/2 scale, complete with working steering and a miniature electric drivetrain, and his woodworking skills have expanded to include recreations of tanks, trains, scooters and even concept cars such as the Lamborghini Vision GT, Audi Skysphere and Mercedes Vision AVTR. The Time Machine Car’s thick wooden front wheels have intricate clockwork-like hubs and huge snail-shell wheels at the rear resembling inverted ram’s horns. The car is topped by a curved slatted wooden roof, giving it a unique aesthetic.
The headlights and neon interior provide both functionality and ambience. Perhaps most striking is the intricate series of gear-driven lever mechanisms at the front, creating mesmerizing, undulating movement. Every element of this extraordinary vehicle demonstrates Van Dao’s incredible attention to detail and ability to blend form and function in the most imaginative ways.
