Tiger Woods passes up offer to be Ryder Cup captain

Tiger Woods will not be captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team.

The Telegraph reported that Woods Opportunity turned down He will lead his countrymen in the European Championship in 2025 at Bethpage.

Woods is reportedly also deeply involved in the PGA Tour’s negotiations with PIF, the financial arm of the Saudi Arabian government that funds LIV Golf, and likely won’t have time to deal with the many demands of being captain.

Woods, a former vice-captain, has long been linked with the role.

According to the Telegraph, PGA Tour veteran Stewart Cink, who won the British Open in 2009, is a possible candidate for the position.

Davis Love III and Fred Couples, team captains in 2012 and 2016, are also on the list of candidates.

The Europeans dominated the Americans in Rome in September, jumping out to an early lead before defeating Zach Johnson’s team, 16.5-11.5.

The official captaincy announcement will be made at noon on Tuesday.
