In an effort to satisfy his pregnant wife’s insane appetite, a man went diving into the ocean to catch fish for her.

Lewis Davis and his wife Ash Davis live in Northland, New Zealand, and are expecting their third child soon.

According to British news agency SWNS, the pair grew up fishing for fresh fish and diving in the Pacific Ocean and are accustomed to life on the high seas.

Ash Davis, in particular, loves eating sea urchin, and her cravings for it intensified during her pregnancy.

Lewis Davis, a full-time content creator, had visited the ocean floor to collect sea urchins for his pregnant wife, SWNS reported.

The process takes 10 to 12 hours to complete, Lewis-Davis said, but he said he couldn’t deny his wife food she desperately wanted.

Lewis-Davis said he was aware of the risks, saying his wife’s craving for raw fish was no different from an American’s craving for a cheeseburger.

Divers told SWNS they would don “very thick wetsuits” and dive to the ocean floor to pick up sea urchins, which they would then chop up and bring back to shore.

He said his wife eats kina, made from sea urchin eggs, and that the couple never freeze anything her husband brings in.

“She eats it the day she comes out of the water. We never freeze it,” he told SWNS.

Lewis-Davies described the taste as “salty, very strong, very dominant” and noted that “99% of people will spit or vomit.”

Fox News Digital spoke with Dr. Angela Wilson Liberman, an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, who said eating raw fish while pregnant could make you sick.

“Pregnancy is a kind of immunocompromised state, so we’re pretty direct in advising pregnant women not to eat raw fish or raw shellfish,” she said.
