‘The Polls Are Bad and Getting Worse’

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “The Jose Diaz-Balart Report” that President Joe Biden should drop out of the presidential race because “the polls are bad and getting worse” after his debate performance.

“Why are you asking the president to step down?” Diaz-Balart asked.

Moulton said, “First of all, it was a difficult decision. I’ve known the Vice President for a long time. In fact, he was the first major politician to endorse and campaign for me after the hard-fought primary when I first ran for Congress. I even had breakfast with him at his house when I was Vice President. I have a deep love and respect for Joe Biden and the great things he’s done for our country. So for the first half of the week after the debate, I tried to have private conversations, I reached out to his aides, I spoke to people in the White House and expressed my sincere concerns about him continuing to run. But when those conversations came to nothing, I decided it was time to speak publicly and share the many concerns that many voters in my district have. We understand the stakes, and I know the President understands this, but the stakes in this race are very high. We have to beat Donald Trump. You can’t double down on your strategy when the polls are bad and they’re getting worse, but you have to change your strategy because you have to win. This is about beating Donald Trump, and that’s the end of the game.”

“He’s trailing in key states and his polling is worsening. We’ve been calling for it, but we haven’t seen it from the president or his campaign. I’ve never seen him campaign more vigorously,” he added.
