Liberals on social media were outraged after Democratic lawmakers reportedly acknowledged behind the scenes that former President Trump was not a “threat to democracy” as the party loudly claims.
New York Times columnist Ezra Klein appeared on The Bulwark podcast on Tuesday and revealed that “senior Democratic Party officials” have privately told him they are panicking over whether to support or abandon President Biden.
“People are weighing all these things: ‘It would be very unpleasant for me personally to be an elected official in the Democratic Party to oppose the president,’ and then they’re weighing what would happen if Donald Trump won, and then, with a clear expression of favoritism, they’re saying ‘I could live with it if Donald Trump won.'” Klein says“To be fair, some people have said that informally…”

“Really?” podcast host Tim Miller responded.
“I had a top Democrat basically say to me, ‘I don’t know why Democrats who believe that Donald Trump is an existential threat to democracy are acting the way they do, but I’m acting the way I do because I don’t believe that,'” Klein continued.
“Who the hell is this?” yelled an angry Miller. “Tell us your source, Ezra!”
“I think it’s infuriating, but I think it’s consistent,” Klein replied.
Klein later told Miller, “I think at some point you have to say, no matter what Democrats say in public, they’re more resigned than their public rhetoric suggests and they’re going to throw themselves into resistance to President Trump.”
“Your voice is so calm, but right now my blood pressure is skyrocketing,” Miller said. “Ezra, I’m really angry.”

Miller shared the “frustrating exchange” on X, sparking outrage among other anti-Trump supporters.
“It’s really infuriating,” Jon Favreau, a speechwriter for former President Obama and co-host of “Pod Save America,” responded.
“Correction: I wasn’t too soft on Democrats. I was way too soft,” New York magazine reporter Jonathan Chait said.
After ABC interview, Biden criticized, calling him a “disqualifier” for refusing cognitive testing
“This is a story of real, legitimate bad people. Here they are. May they rot in hell,” posted progressive activist Aaron Regenberg.
“If political parties are populated by so many useless people, there’s no point in them existing,” said Vox reporter Sean Illing.
“This idealism is truly bizarre,” said Damir Marsik, editor-in-chief of The Washington Post. “It’s as if people living in a city dedicated to politics don’t understand politics at all.”

Biden is facing growing pressure to drop out of the presidential race after his disastrous debate defeat, despite vowing to stay in the race until November.
Democrats in Congress have faced turmoil in recent weeks, with many publicly supporting Biden but reportedly privately voicing their opposition.
On Wednesday night, Vermont Sen. Peter Welch joined eight House Democrats in calling for Biden to resign. Several members of the media have also been vocal in calling for Biden to be removed from the running.

George Clooney, a Hollywood A-lister and Democratic megadonor who co-hosted a star-studded fundraiser for Biden in Los Angeles just a few weeks before the debate, penned a scathing essay in The New York Times calling for the backing of a new candidate.
“It shocks me to say this, but the Joe Biden I sat with at a fundraiser three weeks ago was not the ‘big’ Joe Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same person we all witnessed at the debates,” Clooney wrote.
