Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer is being sued for wrongful death and negligence after he allegedly struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk earlier this year.
The man who died in the accident was Israel Sanchez, 47. His daughter, Ashley Sanchez, filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.
The incident occurred on March 18, when Klinghoffer is accused of driving a black SVU with no license plates at the time. He allegedly drove through a crosswalk while attempting to turn at a traffic light, striking Sanchez.

Video footage obtained from a neighbor’s Ring camera, submitted by the plaintiffs, showed a black vehicle crashing into Israel. Sanchez suffered blunt force trauma to the head and died at a hospital several hours after the crash, according to the lawsuit.

According to the criminal complaint, obtained by The Associated Press, Klinghoffer was texting while driving at the time of the crash, and video footage shows the driver holding something above the steering wheel of his car.

“My dad was known as an incredible chef, the most talented man in our family and an amazing grandpa, always full of love and joy,” Ashley said in a news release, according to the Associated Press. “His smile was so contagious. His life was taken by a careless act of not paying attention to what was ahead while driving.”

According to the outlet, former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Eddie Vedder is currently on tour with Pearl Jam. Earlier this month, Vedder and the rest of Pearl Jam canceled the European legs of their Dark Matter World Tour, citing ongoing “illness” within the band.

A representative for Klinghoffer did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
