Biden Claims Border Encounters Lower Than When Trump Left Office

Claim: President Joe Biden, in a crucial press conference that could determine the success or failure of NATO, claimed that the number of people crossing the border is lower than when former President Donald Trump left office.

Verdict: False. NBC News report In June 2024, 84,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended at the border. In January 2021, the year President Trump left office, 75,000 migrants were encountered along the southwest border.

Biden’s false claims came after he tried to blame Trump for the failure of a left-wing pro-immigration border proposal earlier this year.

“So I took executive action last month. As a result, working with Mexico, border encounters have decreased by more than 50 percent – levels now are lower than when Trump left office,” he argued.

According to NBC News, Biden’s border encounters in June were the lowest since he took office, but that doesn’t include foreign nationals who entered the US through Biden’s CBP One parole pipeline, which has allowed millions of foreign nationals to enter the US since its launch in early 2023, as Breitbart News’ John Binder reported.

Additionally, encounters at the Southwest border throughout fiscal year 2020 were significantly lower than the Biden administration’s record high in June, with 16,182 encounters recorded in April 2020 and 21,593 encounters recorded in May 2020, for example. In December 2020, during the first quarter of fiscal year 2021, there were 70,630 border apprehensions, Bob Price of Breitbart News Texas previously reported.

In March, the Heritage Foundation Pinged The number of illegal immigrants entering the United States under the Biden administration is expected to exceed 10 million.

Biden’s press conference came as his abysmal performance in a June debate sparked widespread panic about whether he should step aside for another candidate, but he remains adamant he will continue to campaign. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday that the White House is making a concerted effort to get the president more engaged with the press.
