Christian Scott turning Triple-A strides into more Mets trust

Efforts will be rewarded.

Mets pitching prospect Christian Scott is scheduled to take the mound on Saturday against the Colorado Rockies.

This will be his third start since returning from the Syracuse Mets.

“Anytime you can put on a major league uniform and compete against those guys, it’s a great opportunity,” Scott said.

Prior to July 3, Scott had been playing at the Triple-A level as the team looked to reduce the right-hander’s innings.

During his time at Syracuse, the 25-year-old pitcher never pitched more than five innings in any game.

Nonetheless, Scott knew that persistence and perseverance would help him succeed.

“I’ve just been taking each day as it comes, taking each good day as it comes,” Scott said. “I try not to think too far into the future or the past. I just try to focus on the day.”

After all those years, the Mets called him up and gave him a chance to shine under the brightest lights.

The 6-foot-4 pitcher has shown steady progress in his first two games back with the Mets.

“It’s just about going out there and believing in your stuff,” Scott said.

In his first two starts since returning from Triple-A, Scott pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed just four and two earned runs, respectively.

“I try really hard to make my pitches as good as I can to get outs,” Scott said, “so when I step on the mound I feel good and I trust my pitches.”

Scott’s recent performance has caught the attention of manager Carlos Mendoza, who called him “really good,” and MLB Pipeline has him ranked as the 38th best prospect, garnering interest around the league.

The work and attention has boosted Scott’s confidence.

“I feel like I can put anybody out at any time,” Scott said.
