Jack Quaid says he’s ‘inclined to agree’ with ‘nepo baby’ comments: ‘The door was open for me’

Ever since he was a child, Jack Quaid has enjoyed the benefits of having famous parents.

In a recent interview The Daily Beast, The 32-year-old actor spoke about the influence his parents, Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, had on his career in Hollywood, and explained why he “can accept” being labelled a “Nepo baby”.

“People call me a ‘nepobabe,'” he said. “I agree. I’m a very blessed person and was able to get representation pretty early on, which is like more than half the battle. I knew there were doors open to me in a lot of ways that weren’t open to a lot of actors, and I’ve worked as hard as I can to prove that I deserve to walk through those doors.”

In December, Ryan appeared to slam the term in an interview. Glamorous.

“Jack is so talented,” she told the outlet. “He’s a lot more of a genius than I am.”

“That Nepo comment belittles his hard work, his talent and his sensitivity to privilege. I remember seeing him in a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in middle school. He was Bottom. I had just divorced his father and he was sitting across the hall from me.”

Ryan said it was at that moment that she and the “The Rookie” star realized their son would have a career in acting, but she wasn’t too thrilled.

“I had my head in my hands and I thought, ‘Oh no, he’s a good player. A really good player.’ I leaned over and looked at Dennis and he was leaning over with his head in his hands too. I knew right away.”

“The Boys” actor defended his mother’s comments, telling The Daily Beast, “I don’t think she’s saying I’m not a nepo baby.”

“I think she’s just saying that, in her opinion, it diminishes my talent,” he added. “I don’t think it diminishes my talent. I work hard and I know I get told no a lot more than I get told yes. But I also know it’s incredibly hard to get into this industry, and I’ve had it easier than most people.”

“Both could be true. So I don’t think she was trying to say that I wasn’t a privileged person. She knows. I’m sure she knows. I think she was just acting like a mother.”

Appearing on Kelly Clarkson’s daytime talk show in 2020, Dennis said Jack rejected his father’s offer to find a surrogate.

“My agent wanted to represent him, but he said, ‘No, I want to do it myself,'” he told the Grammy-winning artist.

He continued, “And then, of course, he got himself an agent, and his first movie was The Hunger Games. And then he [Martin] “Scorsese’s ‘Vinyl’ was on TV and it was the most popular show at the time. Now they’re showing ‘The Boys’ and it’s the most popular show on streaming. It’s a great show.”

The label “nepobaby” has also been applied to other celebrities, including Emma Roberts (niece of Julia Roberts), actress Zoe Kravitz (daughter of Grammy Award winner Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet), actress Maya Hawke (daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman), and actress Margaret Qualley (daughter of Andie MacDowell).
