Ron Johnson suggests Biden campaign chaos good for GOP: 'Kind of fun to watch'

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) suggested in an interview broadcast Sunday that the current turmoil surrounding President Biden’s reelection campaign is a good thing for his party.

“It’s hard to beat an incumbent,” Johnson told radio host John Catsimatidis on WABC 770 AM’s “The Cats Roundtable.”

“That was the pony they rode to get re-elected and stay in power, and all of a sudden it fell through and now they’re scrambling. Now it’s … ‘How do we pull this thing out of the dumpster?'” Johnson said of Democrats. “It’s fun to watch, to be honest with you.”

Biden and his campaign are dealing with the fallout from a shaky performance last month during a presidential debate with former President Trump, in which the president stuttered and spoke in a raspy voice, sparking widespread concern among Democrats about his age, mental health and ability to hold the presidency.

Several Democrats in both the House and Senate have already called on the president to withdraw from the race, but at a press conference on Thursday night, Biden said he believes he is “the best person ever to run for president.”

“I believe I’m the best person to govern,” Biden said, “and the best person to win. But there are other people who can beat Trump. But it’s all starting from scratch. And, you know, we’re talking about the money we’ve raised. We’re not bad.”

“Let’s start there. Number one,” he continued, “the fact is, the consideration is that I believe I am the best qualified person to run for president. I beat him once and I intend to win again.”

The Republican National Convention (RNC) is scheduled to begin on Monday in Johnson’s hometown of Milwaukee. In an interview with Catsimatidis, Johnson said he would like convention attendees to sample the beer, sausage and, hopefully, fresh cheese curds that his hometown is famous for.

Trump said there was a “high probability” that he would announce his running mate at the party convention.

“I think it’s probably a pretty good chance. I wouldn’t say 100 percent, but we’re pretty close. We’re going to do it in Milwaukee. We’re going to have a great time,” Trump said in an interview published in May.
