Robert MacIntyre made history on Sunday, becoming just the second Scot to win the Scottish National Open. He shot a seven-under 63 on Saturday to climb the leaderboard, then carded a three-under 67 on Sunday to beat Adam Scott by one stroke and join Colin Montgomerie in the history books.
MacIntyre also won the U.S. Open prior to this week, marking his second PGA Tour victory of 2024. MacIntyre also won the RBC Canadian Open in June.
But this week was much more dramatic, an impressive achievement considering he won in Canada with his father as his caddie. MacIntyre birdied the 18th to finish at 18 under and played the final five holes in 4 under. The Scot made a long birdie putt on the 14th and then a stunning eagle on the par-5 16th to tie Scott at 17 under. MacIntyre two-putted for par on the 17th and then made a 22-foot putt on the 18th to earn himself a place in Scottish Open lore.
The Genesis Scottish Open has a total prize purse of $9 million, and MacIntyre took home $1.62 million and 500 FedEx Cup points.
Scott won $918,000 for his runner-up finish. 2023 Scottish Open champion Rory McIlroy finished tied for fourth with Ludvig Oberg, who struggled on Sunday at three over par. Oberg was two strokes behind McIntyre heading into the final round.
