Bronny James would battle to start at Green Bay

Nationally syndicated sports talk radio host and head coach of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men’s basketball team Doug Gottlieb walks an interesting line when commenting on a variety of topics, but this past weekend he waded into the Bronny James controversy on social media.

While answering questions from X fans, Gottlieb questioned whether the eldest son of NBA superstar LeBron James would have a shot at playing for Green Bay.

“He’ll be competing for a starting spot, but I like the way he moves the ball and the way he defends, but he’s not my point guy and I’m a bigger wing and unless I see him on the team, I honestly don’t think he’ll be able to start,” Gottlieb wrote in response to a question.

With summer league underway in Las Vegas and all eyes on the Lakers with the 55th overall pick in this year’s draft, questions are circulating about how Bronny will play in the NBA or NBA G League.

Bronny has faced plenty of criticism over perceived nepotism in the Lakers’ drafting of him, something the team vehemently denies, and his start to the season this summer hasn’t helped his case.

Bronny made just 3 of 14 shots and finished with just eight points in Friday’s Las Vegas Summer League opener against the Rockets.

Bronny started six games for USC last season but was 6-of-26 overall and 0-of-12 on 3-pointers in Friday’s game and two games played as part of the California Classic.

He told reporters he feels “a bit like I’m in a bit of a slump right now.” According to ESPN:.

Gottlieb took over Green Bay in May, a team that went 18-14 last season and 13-7 in the Horizon League.

Bronny also said he would welcome any assignment the Lakers give him after the summer.

“I’m excited for whatever basketball I play, regardless of what level I play at,” James said Friday in Las Vegas.
