MSNBC pulls ‘Morning Joe’ from air Monday reportedly over concerns about Trump assassination attempt commentary

MSNBC pulled its “Morning Joe” show from the air Monday amid concerns that inappropriate comments may be aired in the wake of Saturday’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. CNN reported:.

CNN reported that MSNBC’s focus on Monday will be breaking coverage of the shooting at President Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, adding that “Morning Joe” will return to the air on Tuesday.

“Given the severity and complexity of this incident, NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC have continued to cover the breaking news since Saturday night.”

CNN, citing a person familiar with the matter, said MSNBC took the step to avoid inappropriate comments airing on “Morning Joe” that could potentially damage the progressive cable news network. The person told CNN that it would air breaking news instead. The person further told CNN that Cesar Conde, chairman of NBCUniversal News Group, made the decision in collaboration with MSNBC president Rashida Jones and hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.

“Given the severity and complexity of this incident, NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC are continuing to broadcast breaking news coverage from Saturday night,” a spokesperson for NBCUniversal News Group said, according to CNN. “As coverage of this incident continues this week, each network will alternate between simulcasting NBC News, NBC News NOW and ‘MSNBC Report’ to provide a single news feed covering this evolving situation.”

CNN said this is not a first for MSNBC, with the cable news network also removing three Islamic-based stations from its airwaves last year after Hamas’ deadly Oct. 7 surprise attack on Israel.

Scarborough and Brzezinski, who are married and co-hosts on “Morning Joe,” are not fans of Trump, and their sentiments are unanimous. In March, Scarborough twice uttered “bullshit” on air, falsely claiming that Trump’s use of the phrase “bloody catastrophe” at a rally was a call for political violence if he doesn’t win the presidential election in November.

But following the assassination attempt on President Trump, Scarborough said on Sunday X “Our family is praying this morning for President Trump, for those injured yesterday, and for the loved ones of the Americans who tragically died. May God have mercy on them and save us all from violent political rhetoric. [sic] It stifles debate and puts public servants at risk.”
