One of the victims seriously injured in the shootout during Saturday’s attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump has been identified as James Copenhaver, a 74-year-old retired grandfather and Democrat.
Copenhaver, of Moon Township, Pennsylvania, is in stable condition at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Copenhaver has shared numerous pro-Trump posts on his social media accounts, despite officially being affiliated with a political party.
He is married with two children and frequently posts about his grandchildren on Facebook.
Copenhaver, a former Pennsylvania Liquor Control Commission official, was one of three attendees shot by a lone gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, in an assassination attempt.
Volunteer Fire Chief Corey Comperatore, 50, of Thurber, Pennsylvania, died from his injuries, and David Duch, 57, of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, was also shot and is currently in stable condition.
“These victims and their families remain close to our hearts today,” Pennsylvania State Police Superintendent Col. Christopher Parris said in a statement.
“Pennsylvania State Police are working vigorously with our federal, state and local partners as the investigation continues.”
According to reports, Crooks purchased 50 rounds of ammunition just hours before the shooting.
The Secret Service is facing criticism over how the psychopathic young man was able to carry out the murder within 130 yards of the stage where President Trump was speaking.
Crooks shot Trump in the ear with a rifle that had been legally purchased by Trump’s father, causing a graze wound.
The shooter was quickly shot dead by federal agents.
