Just two days after the shooting that nearly took former President Donald Trump’s life, the Biden campaign and left-wing media have portrayed his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), in hyperbolic terms.
Hours after a mass shooting at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Democrats and their media allies called for a tone-down in political rhetoric. Joe Biden called on everyone to “de-escalate the political tensions” in an Oval Office speech on Sunday night.
“If the Republican Party under Trump has truly evolved into an authoritarian party, then Vance comes from that authoritarian wing.”
“We may have different opinions, but we are not enemies,” Biden told a White House spokesman. Transcript“We are neighbors. We are friends. We are colleagues. We are citizens. And most importantly, we are fellow Americans. And we must come together.”
“We all have a responsibility to do that.”

‘Divisive and MAGA-sympathetic’: Left-leaning media criticises Vance
The calls for unity did not seem to last long.
After Trump picked Vance as his running mate, left-leaning media outlets like Vox, Mother Jones, Meida Touch and even the Biden-Harris campaign used the same inflammatory rhetoric that Biden had supposedly put to rest.
Vox editor-in-chief Swati Sharma lamented that Vance dared to contest the 2020 presidential election, defended the J6 defendants, voiced his support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and crossed party lines to advance policies that benefit the working class.
“If the Republican Party under Trump has indeed evolved into an authoritarian party, then Vance belongs to that wing,” Sharma wrote.
“His worldview is fundamentally at odds with the fundamental principles of American democracy.”
Sharma teetered gently on the line of calling Vance a threat to democracy without ever crossing it, but he did come close by arguing that Vance has at times demonstrated greater “anti-democratic zeal” than Trump.
Senior News and Engagement Editor Oh In-ae said, Mother Joneswas similarly cautious. Ohr said Vance has a “very MAGA personality” and uses “divisive, MAGA-aligned rhetoric.” Trump’s association with Vance, he argued, makes the top Republican candidate “steeped in lies about the election.”
in contrast, Meidas Touch Author Aaron Parnas showed no subtlety or discretion, openly calling Vance “one of the most extreme vice presidential candidates in recent memory.”
Biden changes course as temperatures drop
While Parnas’ comments may sound inflammatory, he appears to be echoing the sentiments of the Biden-Harris campaign, which claims Vance will help advance Trump’s “extreme MAGA agenda,” according to a statement shared by Meida Touch.
“Every day for the next three and a half months, we will make the case for two starkly contrasting visions that the American people will choose to represent in November: One is a Biden-Harris ticket that focuses on uniting the country, creating opportunity and lowering costs for all. Or Trump-Vance, whose harmful policies disenfranchise Americans, hurt the middle class, and make life more expensive — all of it benefiting the super-rich and greedy corporations.” the statement appears to conclude (emphasis added).
in interview Biden, in an interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt on Monday, said he had few regrets about his comments about Trump.
“When the president says things like he does, how do you talk about the threat to democracy – which is real – and do you say nothing because it might provoke somebody?” Biden asked.
Biden acknowledged it was a “mistake” to call for “targeting” Trump as he did last week, but suggested his overall point was clear. “What I was saying is, look at Trump. Look at what Trump is doing. Look at Trump’s policies. Look at the number of lies that Trump told in the debates,” he explained.
“I’m not a guy who said, ‘I want to be a dictator from day one.’ I’m not a guy who has refused to accept the results of an election. I’m not a guy who has said I’m not automatically going to accept the results of this election,” Biden continued.
Biden continues to slam Trump, warning that there could be a “bloodbath” if he loses, but insists he is not in the fray, saying: “I’m not engaging in those comments.”
