Report: ‘Dozens’ of House Democrats to Reignite Rebellion Against Biden

Dozens of House Democrats are opposed to simply handing their party’s nomination to President Joe Biden and are reportedly planning to voice their opposition to the president becoming the de facto nominee.

The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has brought a pause to the intra-Democratic fight over whether Biden should remain the party’s presumptive nominee. Since Saturday’s violent attack on the Democratic Party, no Democrats have publicly opposed Biden, a positive sign for the president.

That pause appears to be coming to an end, but it remains unclear whether opposition to Biden can survive the current media cycle surrounding the Republican National Convention, Trump’s running mate and the assassination attempt on Trump.

Politico report Resurgent Rebellion:

Dozens of House Democrats are planning to speak out against their party’s effort to confirm President Joe Biden’s nominee sooner than originally scheduled, an effort they say stifles robust debate over Biden’s candidacy, according to lawmakers involved in the effort.

The draft letter, circulated by Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) and obtained by Politico, marks the first public signal since the weekend assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump that many Democrats remain deeply anxious about the future of Biden’s candidacy.

The letter from the group of Democrats did not specifically call for Biden to drop out of the race, but rather explicitly said it represented a “diversity of” views. Still, many Democrats who have privately pleaded with more of their colleagues to call on Biden to drop out of the race saw it as a possible turning point after weeks of mostly privately discussing the party’s dilemma.

The report comes as the Democratic National Committee plans to speed up the nomination process in August to thwart any opposition to Biden’s pick, multiple media outlets reported on Tuesday.

The plan is the Biden campaign’s latest ploy to survive the onslaught of calls for him to resign after the infamous presidential debate. If successful, Biden would only have to endure two more weeks of calls to resign.

The president is likely to receive the nomination in Chicago. After weeks of negative coverage of the president, the news tide has turned in Biden’s favor, as he vowed to continue his campaign despite his terrible debate performance and called for unity after the assassination attempt.

Biden will likely continue to portray Trump as a threat to democracy in the wake of the assassination attempt. The New York Times The report came as Biden’s campaign paused attacks on Trump after Saturday’s assassination attempt but plans to resume them in Nevada on Tuesday, contradicting Biden’s calls for unity.
