Oklahoma City Police investigating It was the cause of an incident on Tuesday in which two homeless people were set on fire and subsequently taken to hospital.
A man who lives next door to the crime scene spoke to KOCO-TV about what he saw and how he helped the two alleged victims near West Hefner Road and Western Avenue.
“It’s cruel that someone would do that to someone else.”
“I was dumping my trash on the side of the road and I saw a young woman on fire from the waist up. It’s something you see on TV. I’ve never seen anything like that in my life,” Corey Spencer told the station.
Spencer said he also witnessed the man who had been burned and tried to help the pair put out the fire.
“I took her to the shower, she showered herself, turned the light off, and then she came out and sat on the couch and asked for some water,” Spencer recalled. “I’d never seen anything like that in my life.”
When the woman emerged from the shower, her skin was severely damaged, Spencer said, and he also helped the man put out the fire.
“He was screaming, ‘Is the baby OK?'” Spencer continued, “And I was putting out fires on his legs and arms.”
Alenia Forster, owner of a cat grooming business called Aristocats, said there is a homeless camp behind the building and her surveillance camera captured smoke from the incident.
“It’s really shocking. I can’t understand it,” she said.
police Said Police believe someone may have sprinkled accelerants and started the fire while the couple were asleep, but authorities are still investigating the incident.
“It’s cruel for someone to do something like that to someone,” Spencer said.
KOCO said investigators told them the woman was not expected to survive and the man would likely lose a limb.
