DNC Scheming to Nominate Biden Weeks Before Convention

The Democratic National Committee is reportedly trying to speed up the technical nomination process to thwart any objections to President Joe Biden’s pick next month.

The plan is the latest ploy by the Biden campaign to weather an onslaught of calls for him to resign following the infamous presidential debate.

If successful, the 80-year-old would only have to endure calls to quit for another two weeks, Axios reports. report:

  • If Biden wins a majority of the roughly 4,000 delegates, it will be extremely difficult to knock him off the top of the Democratic presidential field.
  • The DNC’s current plan is to train state party chairs next week on how to securely administer electronic voting. The voting period is expected to begin on July 29 and end by Aug. 5, according to a person familiar with the matter.
  • The Democratic National Committee announced plans in late May to nominate candidates through a virtual roll call several weeks before the party’s convention begins in Chicago on Aug. 19, but did not give a specific date.

Biden has already argued he is the best candidate to defeat former President Donald Trump and has resisted calls to step down.

“I’m this party’s nominee because 14 million Democrats like you voted for me in the primary,” Biden said Friday in Detroit.

Biden is likely to be the nominee in Chicago, where the news cycle has shifted in Biden’s favor after weeks of negative coverage of the president following the assassination attempt on President Trump.

The Republican National Convention and President Trump’s selection of Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) has also been a national topic of conversation.

But Democrats are far from united and could reconvene just weeks before the Democratic National Convention, five weeks away, Politico Playbook reports. report Monday:

But there is reason to believe the effort to sideline Biden could backfire in the coming weeks, and with Trump now looking like a sympathetic figure, fears about losing both houses of Congress are only growing, not easing.

Senior Democratic Party officials remain convinced that Biden will lose the election. The Biden campaign cites polls that show the race remains close, but smart political insiders argue that such polls focus on head-to-head matchups, while multidimensional polls that include third-party candidates show Biden losing, and have been losing for months.
