Georgia man accused of threatening FBI director Christopher Wray

A Georgia man has been charged under federal charges for threatening to harm FBI Director Christopher Wray and others, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Georgia announced. He said on Thursday.

John Woodberry, 34, of Roswell, Georgia, was identified as the man who posted online on June 7 threatening violence against Ray.

In a message on 4chan.org, Woodbury said: [expletive] “Nazis” […]It’s time to burn [expletive] Hang it from a tree. [expletive] Beat Chris in this house. Make his family afraid to go outside. [expletive] door.”

Woodberry was arrested and arraigned on Thursday and indicted by a federal grand jury on July 9.

“Threatening physical harm to a public servant in order to obstruct the administration of justice is a criminal act,” U.S. Attorney Ryan Buchanan said in a statement. “Attorney Wray and other law enforcement officers work tirelessly to protect our freedoms and protect the public from harm. Threats made against public servants who are dedicated to enforcing our criminal laws are particularly heinous.”

The FBI is investigating the incident, according to the release.

The arrest comes at a time of growing concern about threats against public officials. Former President Trump was grazed by a bullet on Saturday during an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Data for 2023 showed that threats against public officials increased last year, and experts expressed concern that the trend could worsen.
