During a Friday broadcast on CNN News Central, Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas), co-chair of the Biden campaign, complained that she “expected people to be questioning his mental state and intellectual capacity” after former President Donald Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, delivered his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, but “there was basically no response.”
“I woke up this morning to newspapers across the country with headlines about Trump’s vulgar language, his anti-American rhetoric, expecting people to question his mental state and his intellectual capacity, and yet there was essentially no response,” Escobar said. “Despite all the fuss about how the gun violence at his rallies has changed him, that he’s become humbler, gentler, kinder, Donald Trump is Donald Trump. And he uses the most vulgar and dangerous language, essentially to incite his supporters. But not only to incite his supporters, Jim, here in El Paso, in two weeks we will be marking the fifth anniversary of the August 3 shooting, committed by a white supremacist who drove 10 hours to El Paso and published a lengthy article mimicking Donald Trump’s vulgar and inflammatory language about an invasion.”
