A Florida man has been arrested for threatening to kill former President Donald Trump and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Trump’s new running mate.
Jupiter Florida Police Department Announced on Friday As a result of the investigation, it was determined that Michael Weissman had posted threatening messages on social media against President Trump, Vance, and their families, and he was arrested on suspicion of sending death threats.
Police said they learned of the threats through “multiple online crime tips and through residents expressing concerns directly.”
An investigation by Jupiter police found that Vance had made threats against Trump, who was officially named the Republican presidential nominee at the Republican National Convention, and Vance, who was named Trump’s vice presidential nominee at the same convention.
“There were also threats of physical harm against members of the Trump and Vance families,” police said.
Jupiter police said they are working with the Secret Service and the Palm Beach County Prosecutor’s Office on the investigation.
“JPD officers took Wiseman into custody without incident,” police said in a statement.
The arrest follows an attempted assassination of President Trump last Saturday, when the gunman allegedly climbed onto the roof of a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and had a clear line of sight to the former president when he began firing.
A bullet grazed Trump’s ear. One event attendee was killed and two seriously injured. The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot and killed by police.
The assassination attempt occurred just days before the convention.
The Hill has reached out to the Secret Service for comment.
