Trump tells Jesse Watters that he was not warned about gunman, despite reports

Fox News host Jesse Watters recently conducted a face-to-face interview with former President Trump to discuss last week’s assassination attempt.

The interview, which will premiere on “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Monday night at 8 p.m. ET, features Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance, who currently serves as a senator from Ohio.

The three discussed the assassination attempt on former President Trump last week, when gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks shot him from a rooftop during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, wounding the presidential candidate in his right ear.

Trump said in the interview that he had not received any warning about Crooks from the U.S. Secret Service.

“A mistake was made,” Watters told Trump. “They’ve been watching this guy for an hour. Didn’t anybody tell you not to come on stage?”

“Nobody mentioned it,” the former president responded. “Nobody said it was a problem.”

“[They] “They could have said, ‘Let’s wait 15 minutes, 20 minutes, five minutes,’ but nobody said that… I think that was a mistake,” he added.

Mr Trump then questioned how Mr Crooks managed to get onto the roof in the first place.

“How did somebody get on that roof?” Trump asked. “And everyone knew he was on that roof, so why wasn’t it reported?”

“When Trump supporters were there, a woman in a red shirt yelling, ‘There’s a man on the roof,’ and other people were yelling, ‘There’s a man on the roof and he has a gun’ … that was long before I got onstage. I knew someone was going to do something about it,” Trump said.

Trump, who appeared at the Republican National Convention with a large bandage over his ear, is reportedly recovering well from his injury. On Saturday, Trump’s former physician, Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson, released a detailed report on Trump’s health.

“He will undergo further testing, including a comprehensive hearing evaluation, if necessary, and will be examined by his primary care physician as recommended by the physician who originally examined him,” it continued. “In summary, former President Trump is in good condition and is recovering as expected from the gunshot wounds he sustained last Saturday afternoon.”

“I’m so grateful that his life was spared. It’s a miracle he wasn’t killed,” Jackson added.
