Maine teen shot by homeowner Vincent Martin after targeting house in ding-dong-ditch prank: sheriff

A teenager was shot and wounded before dawn Saturday when a group of associates pranked a gun-toting Maine homeowner, authorities said.

Vincent Martin, 30, allegedly opened fire on a group of teenagers at his home during a game of Ding Dong Ditch around 1 a.m., according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. According to reports.

According to the sheriff’s office, after the teens who knocked on the door of the Waterford Street home fled, Martin opened the door and fired several shots, striking one of the pranksters in the right calf. According to Maine News Center.

The boy, whose age or gender was not released by authorities, was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

When authorities arrived on scene, officers found blood on the road and arrested Martin.

He is charged with felony assault and felony reckless conduct, as well as two misdemeanor counts of discharging a firearm, the station reported.

A new take on the Ding Dong Ditch is trending on TikTok, with the “Door Knock” challenge, in which teenagers bang and kick doors before running away.

Police in Texas earlier this year warned young people not to join the social media trend because homeowners could mistake the prank for a burglary and open fire.
