Sen. Joe Manchin (Independent, West Virginia) is considering rejoining the Democratic Party and running for president, according to multiple reports.
Bret Baier of Fox News report Manchin, who left the Democratic party in May and registered as an independent, is “considering re-registering as a Democrat and running for president.”
Manchin is described as a moderate Democrat.
Baier added that CNN anchor Jake Tapper first reported the news.

News that Manchin was considering returning to the Democratic Party came hours after President Joe Biden announced he would be returning to the party. After Biden announced he would not seek reelection, several Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as Republican members of the House of Representatives, voiced their support for him. Ilhan Omar Sen. George H.W. Bush (D-MN), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) issued statements endorsing Harris as the party’s nominee.
Manchin had previously considered running for president as a third party candidate, and in February ended months of speculation about whether he would run for president.
