Democrats feel their chances of winning have improved after Harris endorsement: Poll

A new poll finds that many Democrats are feeling more optimistic about their chances of winning the November election after President Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Vice President Harris as his successor.

of CBS News/YouGov Poll According to the survey, 83% of registered Democratic voters supported Biden dropping out of the election, while only 17% opposed it. In addition, 45% of registered Democratic voters said that Biden’s chances of defeating former President Trump would be “higher” if he did not run for office.

The poll also found that 10% of Democrats think it would be “less likely” to beat Trump without Biden, while a further 17% said it would be no different and 28% said it would depend on the candidate.

About 80% of Democrats said the party should nominate Harris as its candidate, while 21% said they should nominate someone else.

The poll found that 39% of Democrats said Biden’s withdrawal from the race made them more motivated to vote, 49% said their motivation remained the same and 6% said it made them less motivated.

Biden announced Sunday that he was stepping down and endorsing Harris for the White House. Democrats quickly endorsed Harris and her campaign, raising $81 million in the first 24 hours after Biden withdrew.

Biden’s decision to drop out of the race came after Democrats for weeks urged him to withdraw following his disastrous performance in last month’s debate. Biden initially maintained he would not drop out of the race, but on Sunday said it was in the “best interest of the party and the country” to withdraw from the race.

The poll was conducted July 21-22 among 1,071 registered voters who identify as Democrats and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
