Vice President Kamala Harris is on track to win the Democratic nomination, having won enough delegates to consolidate support after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.
Biden dropped out of the race on Sunday and quickly endorsed Harris, sparking a wave of endorsements and recommendations from Democratic Party officials and fundraisers. Associated Press investigationseveral delegations met Late Monday, the party announced it was “confirming its support for Ms. Harris, including in Texas and her home state of California.”
“According to an Associated Press delegate tally, Harris had the support of at least 2,471 delegates as of Monday night, more than the 1,976 she needed to win in the first round. No other candidates were mentioned by delegates contacted by The Associated Press,” the outlet noted.
Harris told campaign staff in Delaware on Monday she was confident her new team would work well, adding that she was “willing to win this nomination and we are willing to win,” pledging to “unite the Democratic Party, unite the country and win this election.”
“The fight for our future is also a fight for freedom,” she said. “The baton is in our hands.”
Chairman Rusty Hicks said 75 to 80 percent of the state’s delegation participated in a conference call Monday and voiced unanimous support for Harris.
“I have not heard anybody mention any other candidates or endorse any other candidates,” Hicks said. “Tonight’s vote was extremely important.”
The Associated Press did not call Harris the presumptive nominee because “convention delegates will be free to vote for a candidate at the convention in August” or whether Democrats will nominate a candidate at their convention. Virtual roll call Ahead of the rally in Chicago.”
Breitbart News reported that Harris’ campaign “set a fundraising record, raising $81 million in less than 24 hours.”
Harris’ campaign Revealed More than 888,000 “grassroots donors” contributed, Axios reported, with 60 percent of them reportedly being first-time donors to the 2024 presidential election. Another 43,000 people had pledged to give regularly to Harris’ campaign.
Harris campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz said in a statement that the team was “assembled with a broad and diverse coalition to support our important work to engage with voters who will determine the outcome of this election.”
