Adams endorses Harris despite criticism of border policies

New York City Mayor Eric Adams endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president on Monday, despite previous comments criticizing the Biden administration’s handling of the southern border.

“I’m excited to move toward the convention and see Vice President Harris as the nominee,” Adams said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “Everybody knows who I am on public safety, and she was very clear on the campaign trail,” he added. “I think she’s the voice the party needs right now.”

Adams’ comments contrasted with what he had said the previous night on CNN about the Biden administration’s border policies, which Republicans blame for record numbers of illegal immigrants entering the United States.

President Biden appointed Harris to be his administration’s “border official” as part of efforts to address the root causes of illegal immigration into the United States and curb the influx of Central American migrants at the southern border.

The number of asylum seekers being sent to New York has strained resources, and Adams once said at a town hall meeting that the migrant crisis “will devastate New York City.”

Kamala Harris has brushed off concerns about Biden’s mental competency for months.

“I’m frustrated with our national leadership,” Adams told CNN’s Erin Burnett. “Addressing immigration reform is something that has been a failure for years, even before this administration. It’s been very clear: We needed one czar. [to] We will deal with the influx of immigrants who are released on parole and coming into our country.”

Sources told Fox News that Harris has not spoken to Border Patrol Commissioner Jason Owens, who took over last year in the midst of a raging crisis at the border now in its third year.

Polls have shown the crisis to be a top priority for voters, and Republicans have harshly criticized the administration over it, arguing that its rollback of policies is what created the crisis in the first place.
