BETHEL PARK, Pa. – The father of suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks was seen in public for the first time since a 20-year-old gunman opened fire at a rally for former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Monday, according to employees at a local business and a neighbor who viewed photos of the suspect.

At the July 13 rally, Crooks, a Bethel Park resident, slashed President Trump’s ear, killed passers-by Corey Comperatore and wounded two others, David Duch and James Copenhaver, before being shot and killed by a sniper.

Investigators visited Crooks’ family home outside Pittsburgh last week.

The man, who local residents identified as the father, and a masked woman who was with him declined to answer questions when contacted by Fox News Digital.

Fox News Digital previously reported that Crooks’ parents, Matthew and Mary, called police hours before the shooting to say he was missing and were concerned about his safety. It was unclear whether they knew Crooks had an AR-15 registered to his father.

According to the Pennsylvania Licensing System Verification Service, both Matthew and Mary Crooks are licensed professional counselors.

Lawmakers toured the scene of the shooting on Monday as Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle testified before Congress about security failings at the rally.

A motive for the shooting is unclear. Crooks was a member of a local gun club and had purchased ammunition before the attack.
