Following the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump, the Secret Service has urged the Trump campaign to cancel large outdoor rallies and other outdoor events.

Trump’s team is exploring indoor venues and has no plans for a large outdoor event at this time.

The Washington Post reported:

Following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, Secret Service officials urged the Trump campaign to cancel large outdoor rallies and other outdoor events that draw large crowds, according to people familiar with the matter.

After the shooting, Secret Service agents expressed concerns to Trump campaign advisers about future large outdoor rallies, according to three people familiar with the incident.

The people familiar with the matter spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private discussions.

For future events, the Trump campaign is looking for indoor venues, such as basketball arenas or larger spaces that can accommodate thousands of people, people familiar with the request said. The campaign is not currently planning any large outdoor events, a person close to Trump said.

Indoor gatherings are more expensive but safer.

Breitbart reported:

A campaign official, who spoke to the outlet on condition of anonymity, explained that holding the event indoors is safer because “you can control who comes in through a limited number of doors,” but noted that indoor events have capacity limits.

Indoor rallies are expensive, campaign advisers said, but one campaign official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private planning, said they are inherently safer because it’s easier to control who comes through a limited number of doors and there are fewer line-of-sight issues.

“Obviously, indoor venues have limited capacity,” the campaign official added. “It doesn’t have the same impact. There’s something special about attending an outdoor rally.”
