Watch live: Trump, Vance woo voters in North Carolina as campaign shifts to target Harris

Former President Trump and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), who was named Trump’s running mate earlier this month, are scheduled to campaign in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Wednesday as they shift their campaign strategy following President Biden’s announcement that he will not seek reelection.

The event came as Vice President Harris has emerged as a leading challenger to former President Biden in November’s presidential election, boasting record fundraising numbers since being thrust into the spotlight with Biden’s endorsement after she announced she was dropping out of the race.

The rally marked the second time Trump and Vance have teamed up, and came just a week after the former president was assassinated. The Ohio Republican and Trump critic-turned-loyalist joined the former president in Michigan over the weekend and launched a lengthy attack on Harris.

Trump is leading Biden in the Tar Heel State with 48.2% approval rating to the president’s 43.2%, according to The Hill/Decision Desk Polling Index. The former president ultimately won the state in 2020 by less than 1%.

The event in North Carolina, a key 2024 battleground state, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. EDT.
