6 in 10 Say Biden’s Mental Decline a ‘Threat’ to National Security

A survey has found that more than six in 10 American voters agree that “Joe Biden’s recent mental decline poses a threat to the safety and security of the United States.” found.

The survey found that 46% “strongly agree” that Biden’s mental decline poses a threat to U.S. national security, while 36% disagree and 22% strongly disagree. The survey, by Rasmussen Reports and the Heartland Institute, was conducted before President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race on Sunday.

“After Biden announced he would complete his goal of serving another four years in the White House, leading Republicans have called for him to step down as president,” the report said.

Broken down by party affiliation, 81% of Republicans, 39% of Democrats, and 62% of independents at least “somewhat agree” that Biden’s recent mental decline poses a threat to national security.

“Clearly, most Americans believe that President Biden’s mental decline, which was on full display during the late June debate, has become severe enough to pose a serious national security threat to the United States,” said Chris Talgo, editorial director at the Heartland Institute. “It’s almost hard to believe that more than six in 10 Americans believe that President Biden, our current commander in chief and leader of the free world, is unable to fulfill his most basic duty: to protect Americans from threats both at home and abroad.”

Another poll of voters in six battleground states — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — found that 65% of voters in those states agreed that Biden’s declining mental health is a threat to national security, including 50% who “strongly agreed.”

The survey was conducted among 2,466 U.S. voters and 5,605 voters in six battleground states from July 5 to July 12, 2024. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 2 percentage points for the national results and plus or minus 1 percentage point for the battleground states, with a 95 percent confidence level.
