Democratic Rep. Debbie Dingell of Michigan fired back at CNN host Casey Hunt, who asked her in an interview Thursday why President Biden didn’t discuss his health or age in his address to the nation.
“Can I ask you a question? Have we talked about this enough? The American people know it happened. The American people watched it unfold in real time. He has made it clear he believes he can still do his job, but he wanted to keep the party together. I’m not one to welcome the firing squads of the last three weeks. I think there are ways to communicate this to the American people without doing it the way that it was done,” Dingell said.
Addressing the nation from the Oval Office on Wednesday night, Biden said he intends to serve out the remainder of his term.
“When is the media going to stop criticizing? When is it going to start reporting a little bit more on Donald Trump? I think it was a very emotional night, he talked about what’s going to happen, what we have to do, why we have to do it, and now here we are,” Dingell continued.

“I think the president has laid out very clearly what the future looks like, which is the difference between hope and hate, unity and division, and I hope all Americans have heard what I believe the president has laid out for us. He has clearly passed the baton, and he’s also clearly got six months left in his presidency and a lot of work to do. It’s not goodbye yet, folks,” Dingell said.
In his speech, Biden praised Vice President Harris and told voters that the election was up to the American people.
“In a few months, the American people will choose the future course of our country. I’ve made my choice. I’ve spoken my mind,” Biden said at the White House. “I want to thank my great Vice President, Kamala Harris. She’s experienced, she’s tough, she’s capable. She’s been a great partner for me and a great leader for our country.”
Biden quickly endorsed Harris after she announced she was dropping out of the race in a letter posted on social media.

“I’ve decided that the best way to move forward is to hand the baton to a new generation. That’s the best way to unite our country. You know, there’s a time and a place for years of experience in public office. There’s also a time and a place for new voices, fresh voices, yes, younger voices. And that time and place is now,” Biden added.
The president also said he would call for “Supreme Court reform.”
