‘It was an ‘honor’ to golf with Donald Trump

The invitation is open.

Two-time U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau said he’d be “open to” featuring Democrats on his YouTube video series “Break 50,” which premiered Tuesday, following former President Donald Trump’s appearance on the show.

The golfer called it an “honor” to play with the former president and said the “content piece” was a way to create something unique on the video-sharing platform.

DeChambeau maintains that his collaboration with the 45th president and current Republican presidential candidate has nothing to do with politics, and that he would invite anyone on the Democratic side who wanted to join him for a round of golf.

“I’d be happy to play with them, I have no problem with that,” DeChambeau said Thursday ahead of this week’s LIV Golf UK event at JCB Golf & Country Club. “I think that’s the beauty of golf. The more we can use golf to bring everybody together in a cool way, that’s my vision for golf globally. Inspiring the younger generation is so important to me. That’s why this YouTube space is so cool, because it really shows the true side of people.”

“I think that’s what I’m trying to achieve and it’s definitely helped me in that regard. I can’t wait to achieve that with other people.”

The 30-year-old said his team “also asked the other side,” though it was unclear whether that meant President Joe Biden or another prominent Democrat.

The video with Trump has already garnered nearly 7 million views on YouTube, and DeChambeau’s already popular channel grew exponentially after the “Break 50” episode was trending as a top YouTube video when it was released on Tuesday morning.

The concept of DeChambeau’s video series is to shoot a round in under 50 strokes with a partner, and previous episodes have featured guests Sergio Garcia and Paige Spiranac.

The video with Trump was filmed at Trump Bedminster in New Jersey, where the pair finished in exactly 50 strokes from the course’s red tees.

The episode was filmed on July 6, just before the attempted assassination of President Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania a week later.

The statement came two days after Biden announced he would not seek reelection to a second term in the White House.

DeChambeau told reporters it took some time to prepare but “it was a lot of fun.”

The LIV star also called Trump a “pretty good golfer.”

The video was largely apolitical, and although there was one moment where he criticized the current president’s golfing skills, the conversation focused on golf and some of the former president’s musical tastes.
