The Mormon church, officially known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), has quietly welcomed thousands of immigrants sent to Utah from overcrowded Denver, Colorado, despite protests from state and local elected officials.
Utah is struggling with an influx of thousands of refugees crossing the border, sent by Denver authorities, but the Mormon Church is quietly welcoming them, even though the state has no resources for them, increasing the burden on its citizens.
Republican Gov. Spencer Cox expressed outrage in June, saying he “learned” that Denver was sending thousands of border crossers into Utah.
“It was recently discovered that Denver’s Democratic mayor has been sending illegal immigrants into Utah without proper notice or approval,” Cox said on X. “This is completely unacceptable behavior and follows on from the Biden Administration’s failed capture and release policies.”
Cox added, “Because of President Biden and Congress’ failed immigration policies, all 50 states, including Utah, are border states. We again call on the Biden Administration and Congress to resolve this crisis.”

The issue has become so embarrassing for Utah officials that the Cox administration shipping A flyer printed in Spanish warns illegal immigrants not to come to Utah because there are no free programs available to them.
“There are no spaces available in shelters,” the flyer states. “Food banks and other basic needs services are full. If you do not have safe and stable connections or family in Utah, please consider resettling in another state in the U.S.”
Despite declarations by elected officials that Utah is not a “sanctuary state,” the Mormon Church has used its own vast resources to host thousands of undocumented immigrants in the state, undermining the lack of official sanctuary status by working with nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations to care for the immigrants.
Church It has been He has spoken out in support of left-leaning immigration policies, including expressing support for the Utah Compact, which calls for federal policy reforms aimed at preventing family separations and showing “compassion” to immigrants. Salt Lake Tribune report.
The church also directed meeting places to function as migrant centers and redirected unreported amounts of church funds to care for undocumented immigrants.
LDS officials have also made statements in support of illegal immigration for years. As early as 2018, the church Criticized A federal policy that tends to separate children from their parents when families cross the border illegally.
In 2021, LDS will also Stepped up As part of its “Immigration Services Initiative,” the company has launched services for illegal immigrants.
So while the state government is scrambling to convince voters that Utah is not a sanctuary state, the state’s most powerful institution is taking actions that contradict the official declaration, invalidating politicians’ claims that illegal immigrants have no place in Utah.
