Netflix is facing calls for a boycott after co-founder and Democratic megadonor Reed Hastings donated $7 million to a super political action committee (PAC) supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.
Hastings’ donation to Republican Accountability PAC came after he called on Joe Biden to “step away” from the presidential race following his lackluster performance in the June 27 presidential debate. Said Information that the Democrats are “back in the game.”
“After some depressing discussions we are back in the game,” Hastings told the outlet.
Hastings’ donation came after Biden announced he was dropping out of the presidential race on July 21. approved Harris is the Democratic presidential nominee.
The donation marks Hastings’ largest single donation to a political candidate to date.
On Tuesday, Hastings post At X, it reads, “Congratulations Kamala Harris. It’s time to win.”
In response to Hastings’ donation and support for Harris, several people took to social media to pledge to cancel their Netflix accounts.
“We canceled Netflix a long time ago and if you haven’t, now is the time to #CancelNetflix,” one user wrote in a post.

Hastings and his wife, Patty Quillin, are reportedly among the Democratic Party’s biggest donors, having previously donated $1 million to the Super Pac Future Forward organization led by former Democratic activist Chauncey McLean.
Future Forward previously spent tens of millions of dollars on anti-Trump advertising during the 2020 presidential election.
