Antoine Dupont will light up the Stade de France at 3:30pm local time when France’s rugby sevens outfit continue their campaign with a semi-final against South Africa. Should Les Bleus make it to the gold medal match Paris may witness the greatest atmosphere of the Olympics on the opening day.

But if water polo is more your jam, you could instead tune in to the USA beginning their quest for a fourth consecutive gold medal in the women’s tournament when they face Greece in Group B.

While America sleeps and Europe wakes up, our attention turns to Australia for a moment. Day one will see plenty of Australians in action, from the Boomers in the morning to Grace Brown in the afternoon and Ariarne Titmuss this evening.
Speaking of Grace Brown, she is our Kieran Pender.
Since the last Olympics, Brown has missed the podium just once in nine individual time trials: fourth place on stage eight of last year’s Tour de France Femme. All of that has put him on the brink of an Olympic medal when he rolls down the starting ramp in late July, the day after the opening ceremony, in the first cycling event of the Olympic Games, a race against the clock over 20.5 miles of flat terrain through the streets of Paris.
As some of you may know, the dreaded weather for Opening Ceremony has not yet cleared up, but the rain is expected to clear by tonight, which should result in more summer-like weather for the rest of the week leading up to Opening Ceremony.

The Opening Ceremony is also an opportunity for the IOC President to make political statements. Thomas Bach’s message can be summed up as “Dream with us.” Sean Ingle was given surveillance duties.
The hope in Bach’s speech? At a time when a horrific war is raging in Ukraine and horrific images from Israel and Palestine have dominated our screens for the past nine months, that hope came when he mentioned the hope that these Olympics can be a force for good.

The 10m mixed team air rifle event, scheduled to finish at 11:50 a.m. local time, is expected to beat the women’s synchronized 3m springboard by a few minutes to clinch the first gold medal in Paris. Whoever wins, the national anthem played at the end will likely be the same. Both events have been won by Chinese athletes at recent world championships (though it will be a tightly contested event; Great Britain’s Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mu Jensen won world silver in diving last year). -
Men’s Rugby
France captain Antoine Dupont, who sat out the Six Nations to focus on Olympic preparations, declared that a gold medal was “the Holy Grail of sport, that’s it.” Organizers have scheduled a men’s final in the hope that he can get the Games off to a great start. But the outcome is far from over. France has failed to make the quarterfinals in the sport’s last two Olympic appearances, with Fiji winning both times. -
Men’s Handball
In the past two Olympic finals, Denmark beat France (Rio) and France beat Denmark (Tokyo). In the five World Championships over the past decade, France has won two and Denmark the last three, and by beating France in last year’s final, Denmark extended their unbeaten run in the tournament to 28 games. This year, the two teams meet on the first day of the men’s tournament, but it would not be surprising if they meet again in the medal match on August 11.

Hello everyone and welcome to our live coverage of the first day of official competition at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
After a spectacular opening ceremony on the Seine, the competition begins, with 24 competitors showing off their skills throughout the day. badminton The show begins at 8:30am local time.
