Tens of thousands of evangelical Christians — easily the size of an Angels home game crowd — gathered at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California on Saturday to enjoy the latest edition of Pastor Gregg Lawrie’s annual Harvest Crusade, a service featuring prayer, fellowship and an all-star lineup of contemporary Christian rock singers.
Christian rock superstar Chris Tomlin performed in front of a sold-out crowd, belting out his smash hit “Good Good Father” from his 2016 album. Never lose your sight, The same goes for last year’s “Holy Forever.”
Singers Phil Wickham and Brooke Ligertwood also took to the stage to perform their hits “A Thousand Hallelujahs” and “House of the Lord.”
Pastor Greg Laurie said 50,000 people attended the Harvest Crusade, which was open to the public, on Saturday, with hundreds of thousands more tuning in via a livestream.
“People are giving up on California, but God has not given up on our state. The last great spiritual awakening, Jesus’ revolution, began here. I pray it will happen here again!” he wrote.
Laurie was the subject of a hit comedy last year. Jesus’ Revolution.
The Lionsgate release, starring Kelsey Grammer, tells the true story of Pastor Chuck Smith (Grammer), who welcomed hippies into the traditional church at the height of the Jesus movement in ’70s California. His story intersects with that of young Gregg Rowley (Joel Courtney), who came to Christianity at the same time as the Jesus movement.
For 30 years, Harvest Crusade was created to bring Christians across Southern California together to worship together through contemporary music.
This year’s Harvest Crusade at Angel Stadium follows last year’s event, also held at Honda Center in Anaheim.
