Moore: Biden 'deserved better' than people around him publicly demanding he step down

Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D) criticized Democratic lawmakers who publicly called on President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race earlier this month, saying the move was a blow to his administration.

In an interview with Martha Raddatz on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, Moore said he agrees with critics that Biden should end his reelection campaign but is opposed to making that argument publicly.

“I’ve spoken privately with the president, and I strongly believe that if you care about somebody, you should tell them the truth,” he said, “and I’ve had private conversations where I’ve told the president the truth.”

“I also know that the president deserves to be treated better than the people who are running around him and publicly calling for the president of the United States to step down, especially when you look at the track record of the Biden-Harris Administration,” he continued. “I’ve had great partners in the Biden-Harris Administration to get us the results we need in Maryland, so I knew I was going to stand with him when he said he was going to continue to move forward.”

Biden dropped out of the race last week and quickly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to succeed him as the party’s presidential candidate. Democrats have rallied around Harris, whose campaign has already garnered enough enthusiastic delegates to effectively clinch the party’s nomination.

With no other candidates vying to challenge Harris for the nomination, her campaign has been breaking numerous fundraising records in an attempt to make up for a slow start.

Polls show Harris leading the way over former President Trump, but the focus now is on who will be her running mate.
