Harris to name VP by next week, kick off battleground state tour together: report

Vice President Kamala Harris, a leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, is reportedly close to choosing her running mate and is set to begin touring battleground states next week.

Reuters reported that Harris will visit key battleground states next week with her running mate, signaling a decision is near.

The list of candidates reportedly includes Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Harris has backed away from some of the far-left positions she previously promoted.

Harris rose to the top of the Democratic field about a week ago after Biden withdrew from the race in the face of insurmountable pressure from his party, despite insisting for weeks that he was “running to win.”

Biden has recommended his vice president as his successor, and Harris has raised more than $200 million since then. She is due to be formally nominated at next month’s Democratic National Convention.
