Arizona sergeant rescues baby eagle trapped under his patrol vehicle

A baby eagle that got separated from its family is now safe after wandering under a police sergeant’s patrol vehicle.

Officials with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office in Kingman, Arizona, shared news of the bird’s successful rescue on Facebook, along with photos and videos.

“Sergeant Girard was off duty and working on road construction when crew noticed a large bird perched underneath their patrol vehicle. The bird appeared to be in distress and was behaving strangely,” the post read.

Video of the rescue can be seen as the sergeant, along with another officer, carefully draping a towel over the feathered creature.

They gently placed the eagle in the back of the car to escape the Arizona heat.

According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the eagle’s “distinctive white head and tail feathers appear when the bird reaches maturity at 4 to 5 years of age.”

The photo shows the eagle sitting curiously in the back of a car.

“Sgt. Girard called the Arizona Raptor Center to adopt the animal, and the center advised that the bird appeared to be an orphaned young eagle. The center estimated that without Sgt. Girard’s actions the eagle likely would not have survived,” the post read.
